BlackBerry Priv - Powered by Android

The Priv is the company's first Android-based smartphone that features slightly rounded edges on both sides of the display, and a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
Android but to be more specific, it's running Android Lollipop 5.1.1. Although it's not entirely outside of the norm, BlackBerry has opted to implement grsecurity as a method of going a little 'above and beyond' when it comes to security on Android.
Grsecurity is an extensive security enhancement to the Linux kernel that defends against a wide range of security threats through intelligent access control, memory corruption-based exploit prevention, and a host of other system hardening that generally require no configuration. It has been actively developed and maintained for the past 14 years.

When BlackBerry released the BlackBerry Passport (one year ago today!), it was the highest-specced device put out by BlackBerry. The BlackBerry Priv aims to keep that going with the rumored specs for the device having thus far proven to be pretty spot on.

  • Processor - Qualcomm Snapdragon 808
  • RAM and Storage - 3GB of RAM, 32GB Expandable Storage
  • Display - 5.4-Inch, 2560x1440, 540ppi
  • Camera - Rear: 18MP, Fast Focus, OIS, 4K video capable. Front: 5MP HD.
  • Battery - 3410 mAh
  • Dimensions - 147 (184 opened) x 77.2 x 9.4 mm

  • The BlackBerry Priv is got a curved display and an all new boot display that displays "powered by android" at the bottom.
Its got an 18MP camera from Schneider behind and a 5MP in front. Priv will be capable of capturing video in 4K and will be running a 64 bit system.
BlackBerry has gone live with the pre-orders for the Android-based BlackBerry Priv smartphones for both the US and Canada in its company's stores. Pricing for the US version is $699 and Canada's price is $899. Shipments are scheduled to begin on November 6.
